PROPOSED AFTERCULTURE INSTALLATION IN SMITHSONIAN

VIEW: Between pillars in the Atrium

A large painted drum, carved digeredoos, hubcap spirit shields&endash;and a sepia “Curtis” photograph of a gay ceremonial procession using them&endash;suggest a religion that is danced not debated.

Empowerment:

The Afterculture is a profoundly different solution to the age-old question of what makes a good life. Short on the material goods which we have come to regard as the yardstick of a successful life, it offers a simpler existance rich in human interaction and the promise of deep spiritual groundedness. Visitors are asked to reflect whether they would prefer to live in the Afterculture. Those that do are invited, in time-honored Paleolithic tradition, to put their hand-print on the wall of the Atrium. How many handprints would go up? How we live is nothing more than what we all agree on. What if we agreed on something else?
What if we had a civilization and nobody came?
